Window Cleaning in Ilford (IG)
Smeary glass makes a clean room look tired, and grubby sills are often the first thing an agent or a guest notices. Our window cleaning in Ilford covers glass, frames, sills and tracks for flats, houses and small business premises across IG. The aim is a streak-free finish that still looks right when low winter sun hits the glass. Send us a few photos or give us a call, and we’ll agree the scope and price before anyone picks up a cloth.

What we clean on a window visit
Most of our window work is interior window cleaning, done properly from the frame inwards. We agree a checklist with you first, so you know exactly which windows and surfaces are covered.
Glass
- Inside panes on every window in the agreed rooms
- Fingerprints, nose prints from children and pets, and the greasy film that builds up on kitchen windows near the hob
- Tide marks left by winter condensation along the bottom edge of the glass
- Both faces of internal glass, such as glazed doors, porch doors and office partitions
Frames and sills
- uPVC and aluminium frames wiped down and degreased
- Painted timber frames cleaned gently, without soaking the wood
- Sills cleared of dust, dead insects, cobwebs and ring marks from plant pots
- Handles, locks, hinges and window restrictors wiped
Tracks, runners and seals
- Sliding door and patio door runners vacuumed, then wiped, so grit doesn’t scratch the frame
- Drainage slots in uPVC frames cleared of debris where we can reach them
- Tilt-and-turn hinge areas cleaned of dust and grime
- Rubber gaskets wiped to lift surface mould and dirt
Outside glass
We can add external glass where it can be reached safely. That usually means ground-floor windows, or tilt-and-turn windows that open inward far enough to clean the outer face from inside the room. External windows are never automatically part of a routine visit. We’ll agree them separately and tell you straight away if a window isn’t safely reachable.
How we get a streak-free finish
Streaks usually come from too much product, dirty cloths or glass drying before it’s been finished. Here’s how we avoid them:
- Frames and sills first. We clean around the glass before the glass itself, so drips don’t land on a finished pane.
- Less product, not more. Detergent residue is what leaves smears. We use the right amount and remove it fully.
- Separate cloths. Glass cloths are kept for glass. Kitchen and bathroom cloths are never used on windows, so grease and soap scum don’t get spread around.
- Watching the sun. Glass in direct, strong sunlight dries too quickly and streaks. Where we can, we work around the brightest windows.
- Checking the surface. Leaded lights, stained glass, tinted or privacy film and older timber frames all need a gentler approach. We don’t use scrapers on coated or toughened glass unless we’ve checked it’s suitable, and we follow product instructions on every surface.
What window cleaning can’t fix
Some problems look like dirt but aren’t. We’ll tell you honestly if cleaning won’t solve something, so you don’t pay for the wrong job.
- Misting between the panes. If a double-glazed unit looks cloudy on the inside, the seal has failed. That needs a glazier.
- Mould staining in seals and silicone. We can lift surface mould, but deep black staining in rubber gaskets often stays. Constant condensation and returning mould usually point to a ventilation or damp issue that’s worth getting checked.
- Scratches, etching and baked-on hard water marks. These are damage to the glass, not dirt on it.
- Decorators’ paint spatter and old stickers. We can often lift these with care. We’ll look first, and we won’t risk scratching the glass to do it.
- Upper-floor exteriors. Windows that need ladders or specialist access to reach from outside aren’t something we’ll attempt without safe access agreed in advance.
- Broken or rotten frames. A clean shows them up more clearly, but it won’t repair them.
How booking window cleaning works
- Tell us about the windows. How many, which floor you’re on, whether it’s inside only or inside plus reachable outside glass, and any patio doors or skylights. Photos help a lot.
- We agree the checklist and quote. You’ll see what’s included and the price agreed upfront before work starts.
- We arrange access. Key collection, a concierge, a lockbox or you letting us in. We’ll confirm arrival arrangements in advance.
- We clean. We bring our own supplies and equipment unless we’ve agreed otherwise. Tell us beforehand about pets, allergies, delicate finishes or products you’d prefer us to use. Eco-friendly options are available on request.
- We check the work. We go back over the agreed list before we leave. If something in scope has been missed, contact us promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm how that works when you book.
What helps on the day: clear ornaments, photo frames and plants from sills if you can, open blinds, and leave out any window lock keys. We’ll take care with anything left in place, but clear sills mean a faster, more thorough clean.
Windows in Ilford flats, houses and shops
Different properties bring different jobs, and we plan for that when we quote.
- Flats above shops and on busy roads. Traffic grime settles quickly on glass near main roads. Inside-only cleans are common here, often with balcony door runners included.
- Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Bay windows mean lots of narrow panes and fiddly frames. Older sash windows can be painted shut or stiff, so we’ll clean what opens safely and won’t force anything.
- Newer flats with floor-to-ceiling glazing. Large panes show every streak, and tilt-and-turn windows often let us reach the outer face from inside.
- Shops and offices. Fingerprints on entrance doors, display glass and internal partitions can be cleaned before opening or after closing, where we can schedule it around your premises.
Adding windows to a deep clean or move-out
Windows are one of the easiest things to add to a bigger job, and one of the most noticeable. If you’re booking a deep clean of your home, adding window glass, frames and tracks means the whole room finishes to the same standard.
For tenants, inventory reports often mention sills, frames and sliding door tracks specifically. We can build them into an end-of-tenancy clean using the agent’s requirements as our checklist. Cleaning can’t repair wear or damage, and no cleaner can guarantee a deposit return, but clean windows make a strong first impression at check-out.
How often should windows be cleaned?
It depends on the room and the building. Kitchen windows and anything at a child’s or dog’s nose height mark up fastest. Homes near busy roads in Ilford tend to need glass cleaned more often than quieter streets.
As a practical guide:
- Inside glass in busy rooms: worth including in regular cleaning visits on a rotating basis, so it never builds up.
- Whole-home window clean, frames and tracks: many households book this every few months, or seasonally.
- Before a move, a viewing or a let: a one-off clean makes the property look brighter in photos and in person.
What affects the price of window cleaning
We quote each job individually. The main factors are:
- How many windows, panes and glazed doors there are
- Inside only, or inside plus reachable outside glass
- Condition, such as heavy grime, condensation build-up or paint spatter
- Whether frames, sills and tracks are included and how dirty the runners are
- Access, including stairs, lifts, parking and key arrangements
- Whether it’s a one-off visit or part of a regular or deep clean
See our pricing page for how quotes are worked out, then send us details for an accurate figure.
Window cleaning FAQs
Can you clean the inside windows only?
Yes. Inside-only cleans are one of the most common requests we get, especially from flats. We’ll do the glass, frames, sills and tracks on the inside of every window you’ve agreed.
Do you clean outside windows?
Sometimes. We can clean outside glass on ground-floor windows and on windows that open inward far enough to reach safely from inside. Upper-floor exteriors that need ladders or specialist access aren’t included, and we’ll say so when we quote.
Will you clean window tracks and patio door runners?
Yes, when they’re on the agreed checklist. We vacuum out loose grit first, then wipe the runners and clear drainage slots where we can reach them. Packed-in dirt that’s been there for years may need extra time, which we’ll factor into the quote.
Do I need to be home during the clean?
No. Plenty of customers aren’t. We’ll agree key handling and access in advance. It helps to leave window lock keys out and let us know about any alarms or pets.
Can you remove paint splashes and stickers from glass?
Usually, yes. Fresh paint spatter and sticker residue often lift with care. We check the glass first, and if there’s a risk of scratching or damaging a coating, we’ll stop and talk to you rather than push on.
Why do my windows still look cloudy after cleaning?
Usually it’s either a failed double-glazing seal or etching on the glass. If the haze is between the panes, the unit needs a glazier. If it’s on the surface and won’t lift, the glass may be damaged rather than dirty. We’ll point out what we see.
Can I add window cleaning to another booking?
Yes. Windows are easy to add to a deep clean, an end-of-tenancy clean or a regular visit across IG. Just mention it when you ask for a quote so we can allow the time.
