Disinfection Cleaning Service in Ilford (IG)
Someone at home has just got over a stomach bug, or a cold has spread round the office. Now you want the surfaces everyone touches properly dealt with. Our disinfection cleaning service in Ilford concentrates on the handles, switches, taps, rails and desks that pass germs from hand to hand. We clean them first, then disinfect them with suitable products and give each product its full contact time. We cover homes, offices, shops and shared spaces across IG.
Tell us what’s happened and what the space is used for, and we’ll come back with a clear checklist and a quote. Call 020 4652 5129 or send us the details.
Which surfaces we disinfect on a touchpoint visit
Most germs move through a building on a few hundred square centimetres of surface. We give those places most of our time and attention, and we agree the full list with you before the visit.
In homes
- Door handles, push plates and the edges of doors people grab
- Light switches, plug sockets (wiped, never wet) and thermostat controls
- Kitchen taps, fridge and freezer handles, kettle handles, microwave buttons and cupboard pulls
- Worktops and dining table surfaces, with food-contact areas rinsed where the product needs it
- Toilet seats, flush handles, basin taps, bath and shower controls and towel rails
- Banisters, window catches, remote controls and children’s high chairs
- Bins: lids, handles and the rim where hands push them shut
In offices, shops and shared spaces
- Entrance door handles, push bars and the fingerprint band on communal glass
- Lift buttons, stair rails and entry-phone panels
- Desks, chair arms, phone handsets and keyboard and mouse surfaces, cleaned in a way that’s safe for electronics
- Kitchenette taps, fridge handles, microwave keypads, kettles and coffee machine buttons
- Toilet cubicle locks, flush handles, hand dryer and soap dispenser buttons
- Card machines, counters, till areas, basket handles and fitting room hooks in shops
Clean first, then disinfect: why the order matters
Disinfectant doesn’t work well on a dirty surface. Grease, food residue and the film on a toilet flush handle shield germs and use up the active ingredient before it reaches them. So every touchpoint gets a clean with a detergent first. We disinfect it after that.
Then comes contact time. Most disinfectants need the surface to stay wet for a set time, often between one and five minutes, and some need longer. That time is printed on the label. A quick spray-and-wipe often wipes the product off before it’s had time to work. Contact time makes up a large share of any disinfection visit. It’s also why a proper visit takes longer than a tidy-round.
We use separate, colour-coded cloths for toilets, bathrooms, kitchens and general areas. Nothing used near a toilet goes near a worktop.
Antiviral fogging vs manual disinfection: which do you need?
For most homes and offices in Ilford, manual disinfection of touchpoints is the more useful choice. You can see what’s been done, it reaches the surfaces people actually handle, and you can use the room again soon afterwards.
Fogging spreads a fine mist of disinfectant over a room. It can reach large areas quickly, but it has real limits:
- It doesn’t clean. Dirt stays where it is, and soiled surfaces still need manual cleaning first.
- The room has to be empty. That means no people and no pets, and you need to cover or remove food. You also have to wait the stated time before anyone goes back in.
- Coverage is uneven. The undersides of handles and the inside edges of rails often get less mist than open, flat surfaces.
- Not every surface likes it. Electronics, untreated wood and some fabrics can react badly to repeated misting.
If an insurer, landlord or head office has asked you for fogging, tell us. We’ll talk through whether it suits your space and what it needs to come with. For everyday hygiene, a thorough manual touchpoint clean usually does more good.
Products we use for sanitisation, and how we pick them
We bring our own products and equipment unless we’ve agreed otherwise. For disinfection we use products whose labels state the activity we need. For “antiviral cleaning” requests, that means a product labelled as virucidal. We follow the manufacturer’s dilution and contact time instructions exactly.
Choosing a product also means matching it to the surface:
- Natural stone and marble can etch with acidic or chlorine-based products, so we use a stone-safe option.
- Stainless steel can mark or pit if bleach is left on it, so we rinse it and dry it off.
- Food-contact surfaces get rinsed with clean water if the label says so, so they’re safe to prepare food on.
- Screens and keyboards get a lightly dampened cloth, never a spray directly onto the device.
- Painted and lacquered finishes get a test patch somewhere out of sight if we’re unsure.
Tell us about allergies, asthma, pets or products you’d rather we avoided. Eco-friendly products are available on request. Not every eco product makes disinfection claims, though, so we’ll be clear about which ones do.
What a disinfection clean won’t cover
Some jobs need a different trade or a licensed specialist. We’ll say so plainly rather than take on work we shouldn’t.
- Mould from damp. We can clean surface mould from tiles and sealant. If it keeps coming back, the cause is usually condensation, a leak or poor ventilation, and that needs fixing at source.
- Significant bodily fluid, trauma or sharps. Larger spills of blood or bodily fluid, needles and similar hazards need a specialist biohazard service.
- Pest contamination. Rodent droppings and nesting material should be dealt with alongside a pest controller.
- Outbreaks in care or clinical settings. These follow guidance from your local health protection team, and our visit would support that plan, not replace it.
Disinfection reduces germs on the surfaces we treat at the time of treatment. Nobody can promise a sterile building, and the next person to cough on a door handle undoes part of the job. That’s why regular touchpoint work often helps more than a single big visit.
How a disinfection visit works
- Tell us the situation. Let us know who’s been ill, if anyone, how big the space is, how it’s used and when it’s free. Photos help, and larger commercial spaces may need a walkthrough first.
- We agree the checklist and the price. That covers which rooms, which touchpoints, which products and any extras. All of it is settled before we start.
- We arrange access. We sort out keys, alarm codes, parking and arrival time in advance. In Ilford, parking restrictions and controlled zones can affect when we arrive, so tell us about bays or permits.
- We clean, then disinfect. We work from cleaner areas towards toilets and bins, and leave every product on for its full contact time.
- Final check. We go back over the agreed list before we leave. If something in scope has been missed, contact us promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm how and when to report anything when you book.
What to do before we arrive
- Clear worktops, desks and bedside tables so we can reach the surfaces.
- Put away food, cutlery and toothbrushes.
- Wash or bag bedding and towels used by anyone who’s been ill. We can include laundry if we’ve agreed it.
- Keep pets in another room, and mention any tanks or cages.
- Tell us about any surfaces you’re unsure about.
What changes the price
Each quote reflects the actual job:
- How big the property is and how many rooms are included
- How many touchpoints there are and how heavily they’re used. A busy shop counter differs from a spare bedroom.
- How much cleaning is needed before disinfecting can start
- Whether you need a one-off visit or regular sessions
- Whether you need work out of hours, when a business is closed
- Parking, access and how much moving around is needed
See our pricing page for how we put quotes together. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.
Disinfection for offices and homes in Ilford
At home, we often work around someone who’s recovering in bed. We’ll do that room last or leave it out, as you prefer, and we keep doors closed between rooms. If the whole place needs attention after an illness, a deep clean with disinfection added can make more sense than two separate visits.
At work, we plan around your hours. Early mornings before the shutters go up on a high street shop, or evenings after an office empties, keep the work out of your customers’ and staff’s way. Many IG businesses add touchpoint disinfection to their regular office cleaning during winter, then scale it back in spring.
We need to know about locked rooms, server cupboards and areas we shouldn’t enter. All our cleaners are vetted and insured.
Disinfection cleaning FAQs
Do you use antiviral products? Yes, when that’s what the job needs. We pick products labelled as virucidal and follow their contact times. They reduce viruses on treated surfaces at the time of cleaning. They don’t give lasting protection afterwards.
How long does a disinfection visit take? It depends on the number of touchpoints and how much cleaning they need first. Because contact times are part of the process, it takes longer than a standard clean of the same space. We’ll give you an estimate with your quote.
Can we stay in the building while you work? Usually, yes, with manual disinfection. We ventilate as we go and keep people away from wet surfaces. Fogging is different. It needs the room completely empty until the re-entry time has passed.
Is it safe for children and pets afterwards? Yes, once surfaces are dry and any rinsing the label calls for has been done. Tell us about crawling babies, pet bowls or animals that lick floors, and we’ll pick products and rinsing steps to suit.
Can you come today? Sometimes. Short-notice slots depend on availability, so call us and we’ll tell you honestly what we can do.
Do you disinfect carpets and sofas? Not as part of a touchpoint visit. Soft furnishings need a different method and products made for fabric. We can quote separately for carpet or upholstery cleaning.
How often should a business book disinfection? That depends on footfall and the season. A shared office or gym may want touchpoints covered on every routine visit during winter. A quiet office might only need a visit after an outbreak.
