What we clean in your bathroom
We agree a checklist with you before we start, so you know which tasks are in the visit. A typical bathroom clean covers the following.
Toilet
- Bowl, under the rim and the waterline ring
- Seat, both sides, plus the hinges, where grime builds up
- Cistern, flush button, pedestal and the floor around the base
Shower and bath
- Shower screen and doors, inside and out, including the bottom track
- Shower head exterior, hose, riser rail and soap trays
- Bath, bath panel, taps and overflow
- Wall tiles in the wet zone and the sealant lines around the tray or bath
Sink and vanity
- Basin, plughole, overflow and tap bases where limescale collects
- Mirror and cabinet fronts, wiped smear-free
- Toothbrush holders, soap dishes and shelves
General
- Radiator or towel rail, light switches and door handles
- Skirting boards, window sill and the extractor fan grille
- Floor vacuumed and mopped, including behind the toilet
On a regular visit we keep these surfaces under control. A first visit or a neglected bathroom usually needs a deep clean, with more time spent on built-up limescale, soap scum and grout.
Limescale on taps, glass and shower heads
Limescale is the main thing most bathrooms here fight. East London has hard water, so chalky deposits build up fast on chrome taps, glass screens and around plugholes in a typical Ilford home.
We use descalers matched to the surface. Chrome and glass handle an acidic descaler well. Natural stone such as marble or travertine doesn’t, because acid etches it, so we use a stone-safe product and check it in a hidden spot first. Thick deposits on a shower head often need a soak and a few rounds, not one wipe.
Tip: squeegee the shower screen after each use and you’ll get far longer between deep descales.
Tile and grout cleaning
Grout is porous, so it holds soap residue, body oils and mildew in a way glazed tiles don’t. We work it with a grout brush and a suitable cleaner, rinse it, then dry it so we’re not leaving damp in the joints.
What cleaning can and can’t do:
- Dirty grout usually lifts noticeably with proper agitation.
- Stained or discoloured grout may improve but won’t always come back to its original colour.
- Cracked, crumbling or missing grout needs regrouting, not cleaning.
We’ll tell you honestly at the quote stage which you’re likely dealing with.
Bathroom mould: what we can treat and what needs a different fix
Surface mould on tiles, ceilings and window frames can usually be cleaned off. We use a suitable mould treatment, leave it the contact time on the label, then wipe and dry.
Black spots inside silicone sealant are a different problem. Once mould has grown into the sealant it’s rarely removable, and the fix is cutting out the old bead and resealing. That’s a job for a handyman or tiler, not a cleaner.
If mould keeps coming back within a few weeks, the cause is usually moisture, not cleaning. Common culprits:
- An extractor fan that’s blocked, weak or not running long enough
- No window opened after showers
- Structural damp, a leak or poor insulation behind the wall
We’ll point out what we see, but damp and leaks need a landlord, plumber or surveyor. If you rent, report persistent mould to your landlord or agent in writing.
Extras and specialist requests
Some tasks take longer or need different kit, so we quote them separately:
- Heavy limescale removal on very neglected screens or tiles
- Deep grout restoration across a whole room
- High-level work such as tall ceilings or skylights
- Inside cabinets, which need emptying first
- Cleaning after a refit or plastering, where fine dust needs several passes
We don’t handle hazardous materials, sewage back-ups or biohazard cleaning, and we can’t repair chipped enamel, dull worn chrome or damaged finishes.
How booking a bathroom clean works
- Tell us what you need. Ring or email with the number of bathrooms, any en-suites and what’s bothering you most. Photos of the shower and grout help us quote accurately.
- We agree the checklist and price. You’ll get a clear scope and the price agreed upfront, with any extras listed before we start.
- We sort out access. Let us know about keys, building entry codes, parking and whether you’ll be home.
- We clean. We bring our own supplies and equipment unless we’ve agreed otherwise.
- We check our work. Before leaving we go through the agreed tasks. If something in scope has been missed, contact us promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm how that works when you book.
Before we arrive: clear toiletries off the edge of the bath and windowsill if you can, and take out anything you don’t want moved. If you’d rather leave them, we’ll lift and replace items as we go.
What changes the price
Bathroom cleaning is priced on the job in front of us, not a flat rate. The main factors:
- Size and number of rooms. A small shower room and a large family bathroom with a separate bath take very different time.
- Condition. Years of limescale take longer than a well-kept bathroom.
- Task list. Grout work, mould treatment and inside cabinets add time.
- Frequency. A regular visit keeps on top of things, so each one is quicker.
- Access. Parking, stairs and building entry all count.
See our pricing page for how we put quotes together.
Homes, rentals and businesses
Family homes: many customers add the bathroom to regular cleaning visits so it never gets out of hand. Tell us about pets so we keep doors closed, and about allergies or sensitive skin so we can adjust products. Eco-friendly options are available on request, and we’ll check they suit your surfaces.
Tenants and landlords: bathrooms are one of the first places an inventory clerk looks. As part of end of tenancy cleaning in Ilford, we work to the inventory or agent’s checklist. Cleaning can’t fix wear or damage, and no cleaner can guarantee a deposit back, but a properly descaled bathroom removes a common reason for deductions.
Shops, offices and salons across IG: staff and customer toilets get heavy use. We schedule around your opening hours where possible and stock up on hand towels or soap if you supply them.
Doing it properly
The details that keep a bathroom hygienic and undamaged:
- Separate cloths for the toilet. Toilet cloths never touch the basin, bath or shower. We keep them colour-coded and bagged apart.
- Never mixing products. Bleach and acidic descalers can release harmful gas together, so we use one, rinse and only then use another.
- Contact times. Disinfectants work only if left on long enough, so we follow the label.
- Suitable for the surface. No abrasive pads on acrylic baths or glossy enamel, and no acid on natural stone.
- Safe floors afterwards. We rinse product residue from floors and dry tiles, so they’re not slippery.
Frequently asked questions
Do you bring your own cleaning products? Yes. We bring supplies and equipment for every visit unless you’d prefer us to use yours. Let us know about any products you want us to avoid.
Can you remove all the limescale from my shower screen? Usually most of it, yes. Very old buildup can etch glass permanently, leaving a cloudy patch that won’t come off with any cleaning. We’ll tell you if that’s what we’re seeing.
Will mould come back after you’ve cleaned it? It can if the moisture problem stays. We’ll remove surface mould, but ventilation and damp issues need fixing at the source.
Can you whiten my grout? Often it looks much brighter after a proper clean. Deep staining or grout damaged by harsh products may not fully return to its original colour.
How long does a bathroom clean take? It depends on size and condition. A well-maintained bathroom on a regular visit is fairly quick, while a first deep clean can take several hours. We’ll give you a realistic idea when we quote.
Do I need to be home? No. Many customers leave a key or entry code. We agree key handling and arrival times before the visit.
Can you clean just the bathroom, not the whole house? Yes. We clean bathrooms on their own, as a one-off or on a regular schedule.
