What’s included in a domestic clean

A routine visit covers the jobs that keep a home feeling looked after. Before the first clean, we agree a checklist with you. Most homes start from the list below, then move things around to suit.

Kitchen

  • Worktops, splashbacks and the outside of cupboard doors wiped down, with sticky handles given extra attention
  • Hob surface cleaned and the outside of the oven, fridge, microwave and dishwasher wiped
  • Sink and taps cleaned and descaled where limescale is light
  • Bins emptied and the bin lid wiped
  • Floor vacuumed and mopped, including along the kickboards where crumbs collect

Bathrooms and toilets

  • Toilet cleaned inside and out, including the base and behind the seat hinges
  • Bath, shower tray and basin cleaned
  • Shower screen and tiles wiped to keep soap scum and water marks under control
  • Mirrors and chrome polished
  • Floor mopped

Living areas and bedrooms

  • Dusting of reachable surfaces, skirting boards, shelves, windowsills and picture frames
  • Vacuuming of carpets and rugs, and vacuuming and mopping of hard floors
  • Sofa cushions straightened and the crumbs under them hoovered out
  • Beds made, or linen changed if you leave fresh sheets out
  • Light switches, door handles and banisters wiped

Bits that don’t fit a category

You can add tidying children’s rooms, emptying the recycling or a load of washing, whatever matters most to you. A two-hour visit can’t do everything in a four-bedroom house each time, so we’ll help you decide what gets done every visit and what rotates. Skirting boards one week, inside the microwave the next, for example.

What a routine visit doesn’t cover

Regular cleaning keeps a home on track. It isn’t designed to reset a home that hasn’t been cleaned in months. If there’s heavy limescale on a shower screen, grease built up on the extractor hood or dust thick on top of the wardrobes, we’d usually suggest a deep clean to start, then move on to regular visits that are much easier to keep up.

These are quoted separately rather than slipped into a routine visit:

  • Oven interiors. Racks, glass and baked-on carbon take proper time and the right products.
  • Carpet and upholstery extraction. These need specialist machines and drying time.
  • Internal windows above easy reach and all external windows. We don’t do high-level work off a kitchen chair.
  • Inside cupboards and the fridge. These are easy to add, but they need emptying first.

Some problems can’t be cleaned away. Black mould that comes back every few weeks usually points to condensation or damp in the building, and a landlord or surveyor is the right call for that. Etched glass, worn worktop sealant, stained grout that’s broken down and damaged finishes are repairs, not cleaning jobs. We’ll tell you honestly if we think something won’t come up rather than scrubbing at it and making it worse.

How booking a cleaner works

  1. Tell us about your home. We’ll need the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, how often you’d like a clean, and anything that bothers you most. You can call, email, or book domestic cleaners online.
  2. We agree the checklist and price. We’ll go through priorities with you and confirm the scope, visit length and price before anything starts. If the home needs a first deep clean, we’ll explain why.
  3. We sort access. Some customers are home for every visit. Others leave a key or use a key safe. We’ll agree what’s handed over, where it’s kept and who holds it.
  4. We clean. Your cleaner works through the agreed list using our own products and equipment, unless you’d prefer we use yours.
  5. We check the work. Before leaving, the cleaner checks the work against the list. If something on it has been missed, let us know promptly and we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm how that works when you book.

Your part is easy. Clear clutter off surfaces you want wiped, put away anything valuable or fragile you’d rather we didn’t handle, and tell us about pets, allergies or surfaces that need care.

Weekly, fortnightly or one-off

Weekly suits busy family homes, people with pets that shed and anyone who wants the bathroom and kitchen consistently on top. Each visit goes further because less builds up in between.

Fortnightly works well for couples and smaller flats. Expect visits to be a little longer, because two weeks of dust and shower marks need more time.

One-off cleans are useful before visitors arrive, after a busy spell or when you’re testing whether regular help suits you. If you’re leaving a rented property, an end of tenancy clean works to the inventory standard, which is a different job.

What affects the price of domestic cleaning

There’s no one-size price, because a one-bedroom flat near the station and a five-bedroom house with three bathrooms are very different jobs. The things that make the biggest difference are:

  • Size and layout. This means the number of bedrooms, bathrooms and floors.
  • Condition. It matters how long since the last thorough clean, and whether there’s built-up grease or limescale.
  • Your task list. Ironing, linen changes or inside the fridge add time.
  • Frequency. Weekly visits usually need less time per visit than fortnightly ones.
  • Access and parking. Permit zones, stairs to an upper-floor flat and key collection all affect planning.

You’ll see how we work out quotes on our pricing page. Whatever we quote, the price and scope are agreed upfront, so there’s nothing unexpected after the visit.

Cleaning around real homes in Ilford

Housing across Ilford ranges from Victorian and Edwardian terraces to converted flats and newer blocks, and each brings its own practicalities.

  • Parking. Much of the area has permit parking or busy residential streets. If there’s a visitor permit, driveway space or a better place to stop, tell us. It saves time we’d rather spend cleaning.
  • Flats and conversions. Tell us about entry codes, whether there’s a lift, and where bins go. Cleaning a top-floor conversion is easier when we know before arrival that the communal door sticks.
  • Pets. Tell us about dogs, cats or anything in a cage. Let us know if they’d rather be shut in a room, and whether any rooms are off limits. Pet hair on stairs and sofas takes extra time, so we’ll factor it in.
  • Working from home. If you’re on calls, we can plan the order of rooms so your office gets done when you take a break.
  • Original features. Old floorboards, painted cornicing and tiled hallways in period homes need gentler treatment than modern laminate. Point them out and we’ll adjust.

How we keep the cleaning safe for your home

Good cleaning means using the right product on the right surface, as much as the elbow grease.

  • Separate cloths for separate rooms. Toilet and bathroom cloths never go near kitchen worktops or anywhere food is prepared. We colour-code them so there’s no confusion.
  • Surface-appropriate products. Marble, natural stone and some wood finishes are damaged by acidic or abrasive cleaners. We check what a surface is before using anything strong on it, and test a hidden patch if we’re unsure.
  • Following label instructions. Dwell times, dilution and ventilation all matter, particularly in a small bathroom with no window.
  • Leaving surfaces fit for use. Worktops are rinsed or wiped clean afterwards so there’s no residue left where you’ll be preparing food. Floors are left as dry as possible so nobody slips.
  • Eco options. If you’d prefer gentler or plant-based products, ask. We’ll confirm which ones work on your surfaces, as not every eco product suits every job.

Who’ll be cleaning your home

Our cleaners are vetted and insured, and that matters when someone is in your home with a key. Where possible we keep the same cleaner on your visits. They get to know your home and how you like things done, and you don’t have to explain the checklist each time. If you’d like to know more about our vetting before booking, just ask and we’ll talk you through it.

Domestic cleaning FAQs

Do I need to provide cleaning products or a vacuum?

No. We bring our own supplies and equipment as standard. If you have products you prefer, or a surface needs a particular cleaner, we’re happy to use yours instead. Just agree it with us beforehand.

Can I change what gets cleaned from week to week?

Yes. Your checklist is a starting point, not a contract carved in stone. If guests are coming and you’d like the spare room done instead of the ironing, let us know before the visit and we’ll swap tasks within the agreed time.

Do I have to be home during the clean?

No. Plenty of customers in the IG area are at work while we clean. We agree key handling and access beforehand, including alarms, key safes and how keys are stored between visits.

Will I get the same cleaner every time?

Usually, yes. We aim to keep a consistent cleaner for regular customers. Holidays and illness happen, so if cover is needed, we’ll let you know and pass on your checklist and access notes.

Can you clean the inside of my oven on a regular visit?

Not as part of a standard visit. Oven interiors take longer and need specific products, so we quote them as an extra or as a separate oven clean. We do wipe the oven door, the hob surface and the outside of the oven each time.

What if I’m not happy with something?

Tell us promptly. If something on the agreed list has been missed, we’ll arrange to put it right. We’ll confirm the reporting details when you book, so you know exactly how it works.

How quickly can you start?

It depends on availability in your part of Ilford and the days you’d like. Get in touch with your preferred days, and we’ll tell you honestly what we can offer.
